A LOT of people have asked me the story of how Lance and I got engaged.
“Were you surprised?”
“How did he do it?”
Well, I am here to tell you! Read on…
On Friday, November 1st, I got to Lance’s like any normal night. He had told me that he wanted to go for a walk on the ridge near his house since it was going to be one of the last days we could do it before daylight’s saving time! (Speaking of which…I hate that it gets dark so early! By the time I leave work now it’s almost dark! Yuck!)
Let me preface this story by saying a few weeks ago, Lance found a heart-shaped rock near the end of the trail he has set up on the ridge. He set it aside and with another rock put “L & A” on it. A day or two later, our initials were no longer there because it didn’t stay.
Okay, now I can continue. When we go to the spot where he put that rock, he said, “I saw something the other day that I wanted to show you.” I didn’t think anything of it, so I let him lead me off the path to a tree.
This is what I saw:
He said he wanted to make something more permanent. As you can tell, this carving is a lot like the metal carving he did for me for my birthday last year. I was so amazed with this I, again, thought really nothing of it. I wasn’t expecting anything else. I was just impressed that he took the time to carve our initials in a tree! My heart was happy.
A few seconds later he said, “There’s something on the other side, too.”
As soon as I walked around the other side of the tree and read these words, I was so excited that I said, “Yes, yes, yes yes!” He said, “I didn’t even ask you yet!”
Oops. I was so excited, I didn’t think anything of it. The tree asked, after all! He got down on one knee, said a very sweet speech that is for my ears only, and I was able to say “YES!” again!
Saying “yes” was the easiest thing I’ve ever had to do! Once we were done talking, Lance finished the tree carving with “She said yes, 11/1/19”
Knowing that I get to spend my life with him is overwhelming and exciting. I’m so looking forward to what our future holds – the good, the bad, and everything in between.
