Beautiful People: July Edition!

Oh my word, I haven’t linked up to Beautiful People in AGES. However, since my blog has somehow, over the last month or so, become a blog more about writing than anything else, I figured it wouldn’t hurt to link up and to learn even more about my characters!

I’d like to write today about Mack Davenport, one of my newest – and most adored – characters that I’ve ever created. She’s witty, fun, and just plain interesting! I can’t wait to get to know her even better.

Mackinley Ruby Davenport

Do they want to get married and/or have children? Why or why not?

Marriage isn’t necessarily out of the question, but Mack doesn’t like kids (unless they’re her 2 year old brother, Leland, or 2 week old sister, Lynlee. Then she’s in love with kids). She wants to be able to live her life on a whim – without anything or anyone to hold her back.

What is their weapon of choice? (It doesn’t necessarily have to be a physical weapon.)

Actual weapons, Mack is 100% against. It’s not that she’s a pacifist, she just know that she’d never be able to physically hurt anyone. However, she’s got stubbornness on her side. She doesn’t let anyone – or anything – get in the way of her doing what she wants to do.

What’s the nicest thing they’ve done for someone else, and why did they do it?

It’s not that Mack’s not overly nice…but she’s not. She doesn’t go out of her way to be nice to everyone – especially not people she barely knows. What could be considered the nicest thing she’d ever done was when she allowed her best friend, Hannalee, to move in with her family after some issues Hannalee was having with her own.

Meet Hannalee

Have they ever been physically violent with someone, and what instigated it?

Absolutely not. She would go out of her way to avoid confrontation.

Are they a rule-follower or a rebel?

A mix. When it came to school, Mack followed everything down to a tee. She was always there on time, never missed doing her homework, and was a straight A student. When it comes to life in general, she’s often late to work, always goes above the speed limit, and rarely takes advice from her parents (even when they are right!)

Are they organized or messy?

Messy! When Hannalee first moves in with Mack’s family, she can’t even see the floor in Mack’s room! There are clothes, magazines, books, whatever, on Mack’s floor. It’s like having carpet without having carpet. And she HATES to clean.

What makes them feel loved, and who was the last person to make them feel that way?

Leland makes Mack feel loved more than anyone else in the world. He’s only 2, but he’s the loviest, doviest kid in the world. He’ll wrap his arms around Mack’s neck and make her feel all warm and cozy inside – something not many people can do.

What do they eat for breakfast?

Cereal is Mack’s breakfast of choice. Usually Cheerios or Peanut Butter Puffs!

Have they ever lost someone close to them? What happened?

Her aunt Andrea. They were so close when Mack was growing up but her aunt passed away due to cancer a few years before. Mack has never been the same since.

What’s their treat of choice? (Or, if not food, how else do they reward themselves?)

TATTOOS. This girl would get a new tattoo every week if she could get away with it. Her plan is to eventually have sleeves on both arms.

Mackinley. That is one cool name for one cool character. I can tell you’ve already put a lot of thought into her character and who she is. I especially like the little contradictions of character, how she can generally not like children but adore her little siblings, or how she is generally not very kind but took her friend in when her friend needed somewhere to live. That is cool
    Keep writing, and keep blogging!
